Did you know that cows contribute to global warming? Scientists say that when the cows burp, the methane gas they produced contributes to the four percent of greenhouse gas emissions. The good news is that German scientists have invented a pill to stop cows from burping.
The plant-based pill, the size of a fist, is called “bolus.” When combined with a special diet and strict feeding times, it can lessen the methane produced by cows. Professor Winfreid Drochner from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart says the pill not only targets the reduction of greenhouse gasses but the improvement of the cow’s well-being and agricultural production as well.
The pill works by trapping some of the energy from methane which is produced naturally when a cow digests grass and burps it out. The energy then can be used to enhance the cow’s metabolism while the methane can produce glucose and help cows make more milk.
